As a general rule, if something in the mouth has been causing an irritation or soreness that has not improved in a few weeks in is important to have a dental examination. symptoms of oral cancer include:
– sores anywhere in the oral cavity
-A spot that does not heal
-an irregular spot like roughness or lump
-numbness or pain anywhere in the mouth or on the lips
-hard to perform normal tongue or mouth movements
Dr Martin performs a quick screening that involves an examination of your mouth to detect cancerous and precancerous conditions. If we find an area of concern, we may refer the patient to a specialist who may preform a brush test or biopsy to rule out any concerns.
Things you can do to help prevent oral cancer.
-no tobacco products and limit drinking alcohol.
-Maintain a healthy, balanced diet.
-Stay out of the sun and always have sun-protective lotions on your skin as well as your lips
-Early detection of oral cancer is the key!
